Last Sunday I went to Lake San Antonio looking for stripers. I was throwing a crocodile spoon by the abandoned floating marina and the first cast by the dock got hit. Fought it for about 5 minutes thinking it was a striper. To my dismay, it was about a 15lb carp. It was snagged on top just behind the dorsal fin, like where you would hook a live chovie. Thought that was weird. When I grabbed the spoon to lift it aboard, it came loose and swam off. Sorry, no pics. No time to get out the phone for a pic. Here's the strange part though, my next cast in the same spot hooked up again and fought for at least 5 minutes before it released. Never saw what it was but it sure felt just like the carp did. I imagine it was another carp though. I thought it was odd that a carp would smack a spoon like that.....twice???  Maybe they were just thick in that spot and I just dropped the grappling hook on them. Sure was a fun fight though. Dragged me and the BG Prowler around a bit. Another bit of info, I was talking to one of the employees at the lake and he said last year when DFG was shocking the fish, ( to remove the carp ), the wardens netted a 45lb striper. I think the shocking temporarily paralyzes the fish and they swim away after a while. Anyone else hear of this technique? Seems it would be quite controversial with all the environmental stuff these days.

Thanks for the report! I had a similar experience last time I was there in Dec. i accidentally snagged 2 carp with a crappie jig LOL...then got skunked. My buddy got skunked on MLK day, so it's definitely not a hot bite. They were skocking carp when I was there in Dec too, btw.

As for KFY...I'm paid up and ready to go! Just haven't had time to fish yet. Hit the salinas rier for a few hrs w/my son in the tankwell but it was more like a pleasure cruise than a serious fishing session. Maybe this wknd...

Then I'm not alone.... seems they need to allow the bow and arrow carp tourneys again.

I deserve to be smacked, have not fished in 2014 yet, itching to get out. looks my first opportunity will be w/ my daughter and her new Disney princess setup,   no KFY points but hopefully the planting of a seed for a future fishing  lover.

Alright boys, I threw my hat in the ring! Figure since I'm heading down south next weekend I might as well bite the bullet and seize the opportunity to post up some new species...hopefully. I plan to give ya'll a run for your money, so hold on and prepare to get smoked ya'll! I love my mini-x but a nice new Raptor would suit me just fine, so bring it!

Our season hasn't really started yet. When it warms a little I'll be on the water. Goal is 5 times a month.
