Hard for me to tell the difference between the blue rockfish and black rockfish, but great to hear it's opening early.

Blues have smaller mouths like a smallmouth bass. Blacks have big mouths like a largemouth bass.

Yeah the blues and blacks can be hard but if you had them side by side and around the same size you would notice a size difference and jaw difference as well. I will post some pics up soon of the two.

Yes 3 lings, doesn't mean ya gotta keep them however.

I only keep one regardless. Only harvest what you can use. But as for the "cattle boats" they kill to much IMO

It will be nice to have the option to keep 3 if you have a need but I agree with you guys, I usually only bring out 1 and very rarely actually bring out a whole limit of RF. So, April 1 is a wednesday I'm gonna try to take that day off. Whose fishing? I'm thinking of hitting MDO on opening day.

MDO on opening day sounds good to me!

Becoming a better waterman and kayaker should be more of a target to focus on than catching fish. The fish will always be around, but will you?

When looking at an ID between the 2 blacks have a very dominant grey latteral line. Blues on the other hand have a full checkering pattern without a break up. Also as mentioned the mouths blues are small blacks are larger.

Good stuff there Derrick! The blacks lateral line is definitely prominent and easy to see

You mean waste as they throw some back to the birds to get.
Due to current economic conditions the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

Sometimes I wish they threw them back. They keep rockfish that are so small you can hardly even get a fillet for a taco. And Ya the others just float and get picked at.
