Handheld Water Proof/resistant VHF radio
« on: October 14, 2010, 08:21 PM »
Hey

Anyone have any recommendations on a good VHF radio. Thought it would be another great safety device to include on my trips to the sea.

Found one while surfing the web which hand a building FM radio included.

Well you want a waterproof for starters, water resistance still will need to be stored in a bag, or if u take a wave to the chest its gone.
Had one and only last about 6 months of heavy use.
I have a cobra model now and have had it for almost 3 years. Great radio works like a charm and is fully waterproof meaning I can soak the radio in water.
The brand that I would recommend is the Standard Horizon they seem to have a really good rep, there radios our not only waterproof but they float so if you do drop it in you can easily retrieve the radio.
Alot of there radios also transmit a GPS point if in distress to the coast gaurd which can be vary useful if actually needed.
Hope this helps... ;D ;D ;D

Any particular model number whether Cobra or Standard Horizon?
