2014 rule amendment! Please read
« on: April 08, 2014, 11:04 AM »
Quote
Photographs with a digital camera providing evidence of the fish size with total length(except Sturgeon and yellowtail and barracuda is Fork length as per DFG rules) of fish taken in the center of the fish in the first picture and then a close up of the tail section must be provided at a minimum. The fish should not be stretched, bent, or manipulated in any way to enhance the fish length. The fish should also be in as natural lay position, mouth must be closed and against the 0 or other even number, and whole fish visible in at least one of the photos. If there is no picture provided with the whole fish against a measuring devise then the fish will be disqualified.

The above is to be amended, we don't want to disqualify fish because the mouth is slightly open, but want the whole event to be fair so if you are unable to get the fish to keep it's mouth completely shut then there will be a 1/2 inch deduction. Which adds up quick on some species. So get that mouth on your fish shut. If your taking pictures on shore from this day forward the fish mouth MUST be completely closed with no gap visible period.
That being said fish with a wide open mouth will still be disqualified.

Tight Lines and let the game continue.

If anyone objects to this speak now or forever hold your piece.

Good picture

Penalty picture

Disqualified picture. On shore mouth should be shut. If picture were takin on the water it would be a .5" penalty.

Disqualified Picture

Got it. And I agree a half-inch deduction seems more fair than completely disqualifying the fish.

If I ruled the world, the open mouth rule would be species specific…..but thats another thread….

Good rule. Will definately make sure mouths are shut. 1/2 inch could cost you at the end of the year.

I never even thought too much about the mouth open thing. I release most of the fish I catch, except the Taco fish...ehem Rock fish. I think most of the time they were on a Boga grip. Heck when I am fly fishing for trout, I might not even take the fish out of the water. I'll sure try to get pics without deductions. What is the worse that could happen ... the fish gets a less than graceful release to the growing pond for future recapture?
For this angler it is all about having a good time and sharing a little fish porn with friends.
Enjoy the journey. Fishing is about so much more than catching fish.

Now if I could only get more time on the water so I could finish higher than 8th or 9th and make some of you all suck hind teat for a while.  :P

I think I'll add a needle and thread to my tackle box. Duct tape may work well too.  :P
