**Early Bird registration until March 1. Save $15 on regular price**

The new tournament website and registration is LIVE! You can get all the information you need here: http://esterokayakchallenge.com/

Tournament Date: June 2 - 4

Tournament Headquarters: Rancho El Chorro Outdoor School

Fishing Boundaries: The whole Estero Bay - from Montana De Oro in the south to Point Estero (north of Cayucos) in the north

We had discussed moving the entire event to MDO this year but after talking to State Parks and looking at their rules, regulations, and fees it just isn't feasible. They also mentioned our use of the Morro Bay campground last year ::)...So, where did that leave us?

Luckily, we were turned on to the Rancho El Chorro facility. We're pretty stoked to be holding the event at the Rancho Facility, we think this is going to be a great location for tournament headquarters. For those of you that will be camping or coming from out of the area the facility offers cabins at a rate less than what local campsites cost. The cabins sleep up to 8 people each you just need to bring your own bedding. There are also grassy areas for tents and some limited space for RV's for those that prefer those options. Along with the lodging choices there is a full commercial kitchen, BBQ area, auditorium, and an amphitheater with a couple of large, outdoor fire rings. It should be a great time!

As always, all proceeds from the tournament go to our local HOW chapter.

I'll update this post whenever I have new info. but hit me up if you have any questions. Hope to see you all there.

Eric

Looking good Eric! Can't wait for EKC III.

Becoming a better waterman and kayaker should be more of a target to focus on than catching fish. The fish will always be around, but will you?

I see you have a date range of June 2-4. Is this a 3 day event? Or is this just a range that hasn't been put in stone yet? I hope the date is firmed up soon so I can put in some leave at work. I'd also like to reserve an RV spot at the park before it's too late. They seem to fill up pretty fast for the Summer around here. Especially the full hook-up spots. I can't wait! Unless some other event comes up between now and then, this will be my first tournament. ;D

What happened during the last event where the HQ was at Morro? Did the park complain? Just curious.

The date range just indicates the whole weekend. Captains meeting is Friday the 2nd, tournament is Saturday 3rd. There are no hookups at the El Chorro Event Center but if you want hookups you can stay at any of the campgrounds and El Chorro campground is literally right down the road, 2 mins away.

Last year went fine for the most part, but they knew we were skirting their permit policy. We even had a park ranger question us about it at the meeting.

I don't have a problem getting the permit it's really not expensive, the problem is that on top of the permit State Parks also takes 10% of your gross even though this a 100% charity fundraiser event. On top of that they said they were going to require us to have a park ranger on hand at $75 an hour/ 4 hour minimum. It's just too much. Having the event at the El Chorro Event Facility along with having the boundaries include the entire Estero Bay allows us to avoid all that.

Holy crap!  :o I had no idea the parks had that kind of greed....I mean "policy" in place for events. And a charity event at that! Thanks for the clarification.

We have our hands tied locally because just about all of our main launch spots are within State Parks jurisdiction. I really don't mind paying to play, I do believe that the money goes to upkeep of facilities and resources that we all use. But, it's just over the top and forces us to work outside their reach. In the end they get nothing.

looking forward to it this year eric

Right on, Bill! It's gonna be a good time. You really fished all over the place this season. It'll be fun to see where you go for the tourney, MDO or windmills? See you there bro!
