2017-2018 Groundfish Season
« on: February 02, 2017, 07:22 PM »
So... If I'm reading the announcement from CDFW correctly, the groundfish season should open April 1st  ;D. All of last years regulations should be in effect due to the regulatory freeze implemented by the White House.

Thoughts?

I love fishing.  You put that line in the water and you don't know what's on the other end.  Your imagination is under there.  ~Robert Altman

Bag limit of 3 Lings and 2 Cabs for now....

Not looking forward to them lowering the limit for lings, if it ends up that way  >:(

Yeah but I feel like 2 lings on most cases is plenty. Honestly they should lump it as part of the 10 and make a slot limit nothing larger then 32inch but that would help the fishery, so God forbid we do that.

I agree with all of that. 2 lings is plenty and so is 10 fish. But if no one kept lings above 32" then the rockfish population would probably decrease or be at a stand still due to big lings foraging of Rockies

Alaska doesn't seem to have a problem at all.

I concur with the logic above. If they do lower the limit....oh well...It just means I'll need to eat them faster so I'll have a need to go out on the water more often. :P

Alaska doesn't have a problem with any of their fishery but that is irrelevant

But should it be irrelevent.
I mean really we have a West coast fishery that thrives and one that struggle to keep up.

Anyone that has rockfished below pt conception on the day boats I think can say it's an overfishing species.

I would like to see a decreased bag for down south and shallower depth restrictions. All those captains care about it seems is numbers.

Last trip we had limits of 10 rockfish and 10 whitefish and the combined fillets did not fill a gallon bag. Now that is a total BS catch I've filled gallons with bluegill fillets for god sake.

Management needs to look at what is being caught and not numbers.

I totally agree with that 💯 %. Most party boats are only about numbers.

Canary?  That's a weird change.  I've caught dozens of Canary's over the years & I don't think one has ever been longer than 8".  Who wants to eat that!
