In the past I've noticed that my self phone reception is very splotchy to non existent in that area. I wounder how that will effect the use of the I angler app. I cant wait to go thanks for all the hard work!

I checked a while back and i had full reception. Apparently there is a new cell tower in the area, at least for Verizon. I assume ATT and others will work better too but thatís just a guess. As long as people are taking pictures we can always fall back and use the photos to do the scoring outside of the app. People wonít get hung out if they donít have service.

Weíve got 63 signed up as of 5/21 with one week left for online registration. Long range forecast is looking killer at this point but still a couple weeks away, fingers crossed it stays that way. Last year was a bit nautical, haha!

Estero Kayak Challenge IV is finally going down on Saturday! We have the largest field we've ever had with 81 competitors taking this years challenge. Online registration is now closed but if someone really wants to join you can hit me up or show up at the tournament and I will get you registered. Unfortunately, at this point I wonít have a captainís bag for late registrations and shirt sizes are limited to what I have left on hand. So, after all that here are the final details for the weekend.

Friday June 1 - Captains Meeting @ 7:00 pm

We will be meeting at the day use area of the San Simeon Campground. This way people who arenít camping donít have to hassle getting into the campground. We will be going over the expected conditions, clarifying any rules, answering questions, and handing out the captainís bags. The captains bags have your shirts and the tournament photo ID that you need for the tournament.

Try to make it to the meeting if you can because there are always questions and things that come up that are good for everyone to hear. If you canít make it, itís ok but you will have to find me in the morning at the Leffingwell launch site to check in and get your bag.

Saturday June 2 - Tournament

Launch time: 6:00 am

The tournament is being held at Leffingwell Landing in Cambria which is the preferred launch site. We are also allowing people to travel a few miles north and launch at San Simeon beach, where the pier is. The San Simeon location is a true beach launch, even more so than Leffingwell and with Saturdayís conditions that location could be tricky getting out, but especially getting in. So, if you plan to fish that location please use good judgement and be smart enough to change your plans if needed.

Scoring/Judging
Cutoff: 2:30 pm

With the iAngler app you can score your fish as you catch them. Just be sure that all of your photos have the tournament ID in them or they will be disqualified. The ID is located in your captainís bag. Any fish submitted after 2:30 will be rejected.

We promote Catch, Photo, and Release but if you are planning to keep your fish anyway or if you catch a big fish that you feel will get you in the money and you donít want to risk losing on the water, you can take your pictures from shore. Just leave yourself enough time to submit them before 2:30. Also, you are allowed to use a lipping device to control your fish on the measuring board. The fishes mouth can be open but its lip must be touching the edge of the bump board. We can clarify this further at the captainís meeting if needed.

Saturdays Conditions:

Over the weekend it was looking pretty grim but thankfully, things are improving. Currently we are looking at 5-7í depending on what site you look at, with some moderately strong winds developing by midday. That is a huge improvement from the 10í we were staring at previously. It is still going to be lumpy and bumpy but I think as it stands now, we are looking good for Saturday. The wind may end up being more trouble than the swell, but with a 6 am launch time people should be able to get some solid time on the water before it gets too bad.

Fish early and fish hard!

Food/Awards/Raffle:

The Lintner brothers will be showing up around 10 am to start the HOW fundraiser BBQ. They are doing hot dogs, Taco Works chips, F. McClintockís beans, and a drink for $6 and all the money goes to Central Coast Heroes on the Water as does our tournament raffle. You are welcome to bring your own food, extra food, drinks or whatever you want but please consider supporting HOW by purchasing a plate.

The ďweigh-inĒ cutoff is 2:30. We will talley everything up and try to get the awards done as soon as possible, shooting for around 3 with the raffle to follow. At Leffingwell, there are day use BBQís and picnic tables so after you fish, bust out your lawn chairs, enjoy some food, and hang out and watch the guys as they attempt the Leffingwell landing zone! We should have everything wrapped up by 4:30 or 5 if everything goes smoothly.

If you have questions and arenít going to be at the captainís meeting feel free to call, text, or email me and Iíll get you lined out. If youíll be at the meeting, save them til then so everyone can hear it too. Otherwise, get rigged up, loaded up, and letís hope conditions stay on the downward trend and we will see you this weekend at the Challenge!

Not to be too chatty but you're 100% about one of your comments.  After signing up on the app I quickly scroll through all the registered fisherman and I see DJ Stoneburner.  I just paused for a second and thought, f you mom and dad, why the hell is my name not Stoneburne?  I'd take half of that last name.  Stone, Burner, Stoneburner.............all good.

Man, what a weekend! As Ryan can attest, it is a ton of work putting these events on but they are a blast too. We ended up having awesome weather and raised almost $4000 for Central Coast HOW! Thank you to everyone who came out. You guys made putting this on a true pleasure. My thanks and gratitude to my partners in this thing Andy (dog pound) and Chad (LOpaddler) you guys are the best!

The app worked for most but not for others, mostly those with ATT had issues. I will post the most complete results I can ASAP. Thanks for your patience with that.

Now, Iím looking forward to the Slam Down! Itís my turn to fish! 😆🤞
