Wilderness Systems pedal yak?
« on: July 02, 2015, 05:33 PM »
I saw this posted on ncka. Looks interesting...maybe a custom pod in the middle that can use pedals OR a motor?

Ha! You beat me to it, I was getting on here to post this. Yep! Wildy is getting into the pedal market and also the motor drive system too. This has been in the works for quite awhile and is finally being released.

Both the motor and the pedal systems use the existing flex pod (transducer/fishfinder pod) opening found on the Thresher and ATAK models. What that means is that you can take either of these kayaks and use the pedal and/or the motor drive interchangeably. And, oh yeah, they both paddle great too! I'm super pumped to give the pedals a try on my Thresher.

This is just a teaser video but Wildy will be releasing more information on these products soon, especially as the iCast and Outdoor Retailer trade shows start happening.

I'd be annoyed that I wasn't told this at the HoW event but I'd already ordered the slayer so it wouldn't have mattered. I definitely want to try them when you guys get yours though.

Yeah sorry Nick. Although this has been in the works for a while we weren't told that they would be releasing this info. this soon. I think other than the pro staff guys who were involved in the prototyping the rest of us are just as surprised as everyone else. I would have said something to you had I known.

The pedal system will be similar to the Native propel drive with the ability to go forward and reverse. The big upside that I see, is that the kayaks are also very good paddling kayaks should you need or want to paddle. Also, the ability to drop in the electric motor in the same hole is a plus as well. Not that I see myself getting or using the motor.

I can't speak to the ATAK since I've never used one but, the Thresher is incredible on the ocean. I think pairing that with a pedal system is going to kickass.

I guess I'll just have to mount it like everyone else does.
