My 2014 Hobie
« on: November 22, 2013, 05:26 PM »
I know you guys have seen hobie outback kayaks before. But here are a few pictures of the yak and what I had done. I have the sailing rudder installed here is pic of the waterproof wire system they use. It can be put on any yak. I like the way it comes out on the deck. I have the ram mount for my FF as well. I also bought a gopro ram mount and extension. Deep front insert for front hatch. and deep insert for the 8 inch hatch. Battery installation kit put in rear hatch. I added a manual lighted compass. My FF  also has gps. 2 Scotty mounts. 2 rocket launcher extensions. Hobie live well, Hobie wheeleze cart. and turbo fins I'm sure I missed some stuff.

This is the hobie lowrance ready transducer mount.  A recessed pocket under the boat. The transducer mounts to the black plate.

I know I already had transducer mounted so I didn't take it apart. I have the Elite 4 DSI system. If things go right I may try it on the ocean on sunday. But want to do the lake first hope to have time tomorrow. After we work on the launch ramp. At least I'm taking it to the lake with me.

Hmmm, that's the 1st I've seen of the new Hobie transducer-compatible scupper. Very cool idea. I'm surprised the transducer is covered by the mounting plate--so it shoots through that plastic. But it looks like water can still get to the transducer, which is good for temp. When in use, is there water between the transducer and the mounting plate--or is it flush against the plate?

there is a 1/8- 1/4 inch gap between the plate and the transducer, so completely submerged. hobie's instructions set the gap measurement.   the plastic plate is not very thick and a different plastic than the yak.  so far it seems to be pretty accurate.  pulled the plate off after a couple trips and transducer had not moved at all, so far seems pretty solid.

I missed the part about leaving a gap. I'll reset mine. THX
