Life Jacket Law HELP
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:15 PM »
What's the law for wearing a life jacket on kayak?

Must wear at all times or have one on board?

FYI, I would wear one on the ocean and even a lake but I am just going to a little pond this weekend and wanted to confirm.  8)

As well as a PFD on board you also need a net with an 18" opening - just an FYI - yes, even if you use lip grippers.  I keep a folding net in my hatch just to avoid a ticket.

For the ocean, not in the freshwater regs but never hurts to bring it.

Fish & game checked Zodi & I out of MDO Sunday and the last thing they asked for was my net. Which was folded in my crate behind my seat. Be prepared!!!!

I always carry a net.  Used to prefer to use my gaff by sliding it into fishes gills - without sticking them.  Now I use the net for big fish almost exclusively:)  Definitely get one, I've been checked before.

FYI
The net must be 18 inches in diameter / hoop width.. meaning it must measure 18 inches from one side of the hoop to the other.
