2015 Hobie Outback taking on a ton of water
« on: October 02, 2015, 10:49 PM »
So I took the new yak out bass fishing this evening to try out my new Lowrance.....  absolutely impressed by the unit and must have caught a dozen fish. It was a great night until I looked in the hull and there water at least 6 inches deep.   I immediately headed for the ramp, while peddling the bow was high I looked towards the rudder and to my surprise water was above the rear hatch.  About broke my back loading it in the truck (hard to drain with out gouging the yak by yourself) Came straight to the shop and filled the hull with water and its pouring out a scupper.

I noticed water in it the day after the slamdown but didn't think much of it until now.

Any suggestions on what to do from here?? :(

Step 1: Take it to the dealer
Step 2: Get a replacement
Step 3: Immediately put it up for sale
Step 4: Use the money to buy a Thresher or Tarpon 130X with the OS pod for the coming pedals and motor options
Step 5: Live a happy Hobie free life!

Don't mean to offend you Hobie guys (well maybe a little ;D). All brands can and will have problems occasionally. Sounds like a manufacturing defect if its coming out a scupper. Contact Ryan and find out where he got it from, I would guess it was from Morro Bay Landing? Contact whoever supplied it and find out how they want to handle it. Bottom line, you should be given a new one without any hassles.

Update on the leaking outback ..... I got in contact with Morro Bay Landing and let them know about the issue i was having. They immediately got in contact with Hobie who agreed to replace the hull. A couple weeks later I got a call from the owners and they had my replacement yak in the shop and they wanted to deliver it to my home, (I live 2 1/2 hours away) just to make up for any inconvenience I may have had. They definitely didn't have to do that but they wanted to make things right. you dint see many businesses these day going the extra mile to make sure there customers are happy. So again thank you Morro Bay Landing for all you help I cant thank you enough. Last night I finally unwrapped it and rigged it up for this weekend .... come to find out its a 2016 model.

See ya no the water soon,

Brian

Sorry to go off-topic/postjack but that Wilderness motor & pedal system looks pretty cool & kind of funny.  They're going to have to put a hellofalot more scoop in their boats if anyone is going to use that motor on the ocean:)  Thing looks like it hauls.
