Title: VHF Radio - Do You Have One With You?

I have noticed that many kayakers don't have a marine radio with them. Seems like a big risk to me. Some people say they have their cell phone in place of it.

Anyone know how far out you can go before you loose cell signals?

I don't think a cell phone is a much of a replacement. I mean if you fall in and get hurt or whatever, you can't easily pull out your cell phone (which is probably wet now) and dial up the coast guard.

You would be surprised how far they reach.  It is a must have in my opinion
